LINDA BAKER

January Volunteer of the Month: Linda Baker

February 27th, 2017 | Our Impact

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison, volunteers are the heart and soul of everything we do. They are a truly amazing group of caring, gifted people who bring a diverse range of talent to our House. RMHC-Madison volunteers selflessly offer their time, energy, and kindness to the House and the families we serve.

Linda has supported our House through many different volunteer opportunities such as a regular weekly volunteer and at our annual fundraising events. We look forward to seeing her bright smile and friendly face each week. Congratulations Linda on being January’s Volunteer of the Month!

How long have you been volunteering at RMHC-Madison?
Almost 2 years.

How did you initially get involved with us?
I was familiar with the RMHC mission and Madison location from working at the UW Hospital. I was a manager in the clinical lab. When I retired in 2015 and looked for some volunteer opportunities I looked online, then came in to see the House and visited with the House Director, Tara. I liked the variety and flexibility and that I could get to RMHC without driving on the beltline!

What is your favorite thing about volunteering here?
Getting to know the staff and other volunteers. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and generous!

What types of things have you done while volunteering for RMHC-Madison?
I’ve worked the front desk, made lunches for the families, cleaned rooms and common areas, driven guests to the hospital in the House van and worked at the annual golf outing.

Tell us something about you we don’t know.
I started taking watercolor painting lessons when I retired.

What would you say to someone who is considering becoming a volunteer?
TRY IT! There are lots of different things to do. The children and families are so grateful for the House and the help that you feel good just knowing you make things a little bit easier for them.
