Knupp & Watson’s Goodstock Gives Back More Than Ever

October 16, 2009

Fifth Goodstock™ adds 47 projects, 13 nonprofits and another $355,000 in donations to local charities.

Pride, tears and exhaustion filled the High Noon Saloon on Friday, Oct. 16, as Knupp & Watson wrapped up its fifth Goodstock event after working 24 hours straight on pro bono projects. The creative communications company presented 47 finished projects to a crowd of over 100, including representatives from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison and 12 other Dane County nonprofits. Reactions were emotional—among the givers and the given to.

“This is the biggest give in the history of Goodstock,” said Andy Wallman, president of Knupp & Watson. “We completed more projects, got more add-ons from donors and threw the biggest reveal party ever.”

In all, Goodstock 2009 generated over $225,000 in goods, services and donated media time for area nonprofits, delivering two television commercials, three Web sites, two radio spots, two long form videos, public relations plans and media lists, marketing plans, media kits, posters, print ads, brochures, logos and much more – all done in just 24 hours. This year brings Knupp & Watson’s total giving to more than $1.5 million in services to more than 50 Dane County nonprofits since the event’s inception six years ago.

This year’s “Goodstockers” represented a wide range of social issues and services.  The 2009 nonprofits chosen to participate were:

• Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison, Inc.
• Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission
• Goodman Community Center
• Wisconsin Early Childhood Association
• Community GroundWorks at Troy Gardens
• The Rainbow Project, Inc.
• Domestic Abuse Intervention Services
• Common Threads Family Resource Center
• The River Food Pantry
• Capital Candlelighters
• Walbridge School
• Focuscorp, Inc.
• Child Development, Inc.

Help that goes above and beyond is what Goodstock is all about. Knupp & Watson staff, in coordination with donors, were able to supply Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison with a Public Relations Plan, Media Plan, Press Kit which included a variety of deliverables such as: social media strategies, media opportunities and tactics,  media releases, public relations strategies, media contact lists, online media tactics and more!  These are just a few services provided through Goodstock, but all of the work does good for the nonprofits.  Goodstock was able to provide a variety of services and completed projects to 12 additional Dane County nonprofits.

“It’s unbelievably rewarding to help these diverse organizations that make our community a better place,” said Wallman. “Goodstock lets us build strong relationships with organizations that don’t always have the resources, time or expertise to accomplish what they need.”

The idea behind Goodstock is catching on with other agencies around the country and beyond. LGA Advertising of Charlotte, NC held their Goodstock simultaneously with Knupp & Watson earlier this month, and Harvey McKinnen Associates of Vancouver, BC in Canada is planning one for the first week in December.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to make Goodstock bigger and better,” Wallman said, “and multiple Goodstocks in multiple locations means more good work for nonprofits everywhere.”

“It is certainly a difficult year economically for most everyone and, as such, the needs of the families we serve do not diminish – in fact, they only multiply. The unique role Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison plays in their lives is more important than ever!” said Kevin Huddleston, RMHC-Madison Executive Director.  Thanks to the help of Knupp & Watson and the Goodstock program, nonprofits like the Ronald McDonald House are able to get the extra push they need to continue spreading the word throughout the community.
