The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a refuge within the hospital for immediate family members who have a child in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) or pediatric unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. The Family Room provides a respite where families can regroup and recharge away from the medical atmosphere while remaining near their child.

It was a family night out at the end of his holiday break from middle school when Alex suddenly became chilled. The ill-timed and progressive symptoms seemed like nothing more than a routine flu bug. But how quickly things changed. Alex was hospitalized at St. Mary’s, and just days later he was on full life support. “All I wanted to do was be with him,” says his father, Dr. David Wolff. “It didn’t matter how long it was going to take, I was going to be there until he got better.”

For five years, Stacey and Adam Kuehn had been hoping to start a family. Last year, they learned Stacey was pregnant and their joy doubled with the news she was carrying twins. She was enjoying a happy, uncomplicated pregnancy when, during a routine appointment, contractions began. Stacey and Adam left their hometown of Juneau, WI and headed for St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.
