Where is the House in Madison?
We’re located at 2716 Marshall Court on Madison’s west side. Marshall Court runs parallel to University Avenue between University Station and Highland Avenue. It’s just off of University Bay Drive.
Who can stay at the House?
We provide a “home away from home” for families of children 18 years and under who are undergoing treatment for serious illness or injuries at Madison area health care facilities. Each family is allowed one room in the House. For their initial visit with us, families must be referred by one of the approved Madison area health care facilities. Once a family has stayed here, they may come back for subsequent visits without a referral.
Do families need reservations at the House?
Because most families can’t predict the length of their stay, we can’t accept reservations. There’s just no way to know when a room may become available. We do, however, maintain a waiting list each day. Families simply call us the day of their expected arrival to see if we have a room for them.
What happens if the House is full?
Thanks to a wonderful partnership with the North Central Group, families can stay in one of their fine hotels at a charge of $10 per night until a room at the House becomes available. The North Central Group hotels include the Comfort Inn, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden, and the Marriott.
How much does it cost to stay at the House?
We ask a $10 contribution per night. Room fees are sometimes covered by hospital funds for families that are financially burdened. No family is ever turned away for inability to pay. The $10 room donation covers only a small portion of our actual costs to host a family. We rely on the kindness of our community, businesses, and individuals to help make up the difference.
Who takes care of the House operations?
Our House is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Staff includes a full-time Executive Director, House Director, Marketing/Communications Director, a part-time Business Manager and Administrative Assistant, as well as part-time night and weekend supervisors, a housekeeper and a maintenance person. Most critical to our operations are our nearly 200 volunteers. They are truly the heart and soul of the House.
