UnityPoint Health – Meriter team members represent Madison at Chicago Marathon to fundraise for RMHC-Madison

September 29th, 2022

Two UnityPoint Health – Meriter team members will be representing Madison as co-captains of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison (RMHC-Madison) team at the 2022 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Oct. 9.

Jasmin Redders, a Lactation Consultant at Meriter and Heather Bernhard, a Meriter Postpartum Charge RN, are co-captains for the RMHC-Madison team, and discovered their passion for running together in 2021, when they discovered they were both training for the same marathon and raising money for the same charity—RMHC-Madison.

They both ran for RMHC at the Chicago Marathon in 2021 and decided to take on a leadership role as co-captains this year. The pair have been training for nearly 18 weeks, which included a cycle of three weeks running 50 miles.

“Runs are long, hot, and exhausting but my favorite part is when I get home and one of my kids asks about my run or even better asks to go with in the running stroller,” said Redders. “It takes a lot of caffeine and support to get it done while working and raising your kids.”

This will be Redders third marathon, and Bernhard’s second, and the pair will run just over 26 miles in six and a half hours.

So far, the team has raised $5,422 for RMHC-Madison.

“I love that I get to run and support a great cause that so many of the families I work with use,” said Redders.
