Partnering to feed families

May 31st, 2022

With the shared goal of helping those in need, RMHC–Madison and Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin have been working hand in hand to provide food for our families. In the first two months of this new partnership, 1,331 meals have been provided for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Second Harvest values meaningful, reciprocal, and sustainable relationships and they have found that in RMHC-Madison. We are committed to being a “home-away-from-home” and allow families to focus on the health of their child rather than grocery shopping, cleaning, or cooking meals. As our partner, Second Harvest helps us with our mission by providing families with not just food, but healthy, nutritious food. With millions of pounds of food acquired from various sources, including local and regional farmers, food manufacturers, and grocers, this allows Second Harvest to reduce food waste and RMHC-Madison to provide quality food to our families.

“We are very grateful for this new partnership with Second Harvest. They recently dropped off 325 pounds of food for our families including bread, beverages, milk, snacks, yogurt, and so much more. All that food goes towards the families, and it is beneficial because it keeps both our operating costs down and helps Second Harvest tackle their food waste concern,” said Michael Rosenblum, House Director.

For over 30 years, Second Harvest has been making sure that everyone in our community has enough nutritious food to thrive. They have been able to distribute more than 20 million pounds of food throughout 16 southwestern Wisconsin counties every year with the help of an ever-growing network of over 300 partner agencies and programs. It is through these collaborations that they are able to meet the nutritional needs of those facing hunger and reduce waste by connecting with food-related businesses and farmers.

“It has been a pleasure working with RMHC-Madison to launch this terrific partnership.  We join RMHC-Madison – whose goals so closely match our own – in supporting the families you serve.  We are so glad we can deliver nutritious food that helps both organizations to realize our missions,” said Lori Peppard, Agency Relations at Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.

We love working with Second Harvest to achieve our common goals and give our families the best care and resources possible!
