Rising to the Occasion

October 26th, 2021

The RMHC community is a constant source of inspiration.  Yet this year, in particular, we are in awe of the strength and resilience our committees and supporters have shown by stepping up to help families during this prolonged epidemic.

This year we celebrated the 25th Rock Valley Golf Classic in Beloit, as well as our 32nd Annual RMHC Golf Classic in Madison. Both events took on special meaning as co-founders along with their adult children were involved in the planning and participation of the outings.  Each golf outing encountered more than their fair share of natural hurdles: frost, a nearby toxic factory fire, a deluge of rain and flooding, oh and yes, a pandemic.  Yet every golfer showed up with smiles and a winning attitude – even for the rain out – to show their support for our families. They were absolutely committed to blowing our goals out of the water, and they succeeded!

Each golf outing more than doubled the amount raised in previous years – $85,000 and $213,000 respectively. During a year when our expenses have risen exponentially, that is an incredible feat!

Knowing the challenges these outings might be up against this year, we strove to create events that were both meaningful, yet pandemic proof. That meant adding new committee members and new elements, which elevated both experiences. We launched the first-ever Red Shoe Soiree the evening before the RMHC-Madison Golf Classic, a magical evening for golfers, sponsors, and friends that spanned the years. Look for this fun-filled event to continue for years to come, open to RMHC friends. All this enthusiasm lifted our team and committee to new heights. That’s what incredible energy and commitment can do.

Hosting decades-long events certainly does not happen overnight, and we are so fortunate to have unwavering loyalty from committee members, golfers, and sponsors. Yet new golfers and sponsors have quickly stepped up to the plate. Please join us as we continue to thank them for standing by our mission.

While we are all hopeful for the day when this pandemic is behind us, we will be forever grateful for the commitment and longevity these partnerships have proven over time.
