Sharing Their Heart for RMHC

When Amanda and Torry’s daughter, Madison, was just 3 months old, she began to have issues with her eyes. Doctors did not know what was causing it, so Amanda and Torry drove from Milwaukee to Madison to take their daughter to the American Family Children’s Hospital. Prior to this, Amanda said she didn’t know much about the Ronald McDonald House. It was her husband who found out about the Ronald McDonald House while researching places to stay.

“I didn’t even believe it was true that there was a place that would do something like this for us,” said, Amanda. For Madison and her parents, the Ronald McDonald House was a “slice of home” between stressful neurology appointments. “Madison loved the playroom room! She enjoyed playing and reading. She even found a new favorite book while staying at the House, called Llama Llama Red Pajama! I even went out and bought a copy of it as soon as we were back home,” said Amanda.

Since their stay, the Rufer family has made care packages for the families staying in the House. One of the items included in the packages is a  heart sachet. The entire Rufer family gets together to make them. Everyone helps out, even Madison, who brings the cut fabric over to the sewing machines. Fortunately, Madison has fully recovered and will not need to return back to the House, but that does not stop her family from continuing to give back and sending love to the families who are staying at the House now.

Thank you Rufer family! Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
